Formed as teenagers in Reading in the late 1980s, the nascent Slowdive was heralded by the then all powerful UK music press as the creators of a wondrous new music, blending the atmospherics of Brian Eno with the noise of The Jesus and Mary Chain.
When Slowdive walked onstage at 2014’s Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona after a twenty year absence, few people, including the band themselves, would have predicted the raucous acclaim that greeted them. Before a note even sounded, a jubilant wall of noise roared from the 20,000 strong crowd, surprising the band, and nearly reducing their friends to tears. It was a triumphant new chapter in the story of the band, which, like all great stories, contained its share of struggle and sadness to counteract the joy. That night in Barcelona marked the start of an incredible six months for Slowdive. Particular highlights were a sold out headline tour of the USA & Canada, featuring iconic venues such as The Warfield in San Francisco, Terminal 5 in New York and two nights at the Ace Theatre in Los Angeles.
